Dividetox puts a price on every extra time you open Instagram, TikTok or X. Stay under your limit and the money goes to your fund. Go over it and it goes somewhere you’d rather it didn’t.

Your bad habit, with a price tag

  1. Set your limits.

Choose the apps that eat your time, how many times a day you can open each one for free, and how long each visit can last.

  2. Stay under, get paid.

Every day you keep to your limits, a reward goes to your investment fund, and it grows with your streak.

  3. Go over, and it costs you.

Every extra open costs a little more than the last. That money goes to your Anti-ETF.

You choose the amounts, from €0.50 to whatever hurts. Every Sunday you get a summary of what to invest, and you invest it in your own broker.

The Anti-ETF

Invest in what you’d rather not

Pick a sector you don’t support: defence, fossil fuels, tobacco, gambling… When you go over your limits, the money is set aside for an ETF from that sector, and you commit to hold it for 6 to 12 months. Not lost, just invested somewhere that makes you a little uncomfortable. That small discomfort is the point.

You choose the sector. Dividetox doesn’t judge any of them; it just uses your own values to help you stop scrolling.

A pause, not a wall

Every time you tap a tracked app, Dividetox shows you how many free opens you have left and what the next one costs. You can open it anyway. Or you can read something instead: a short daily selection of articles on the topics you choose, with a few questions at the end. Pass them and you win back an extra open.

Five articles a day, then it ends. We don’t want to swap one infinite feed for another.

Built on behavioural science, not willpower

  • Rewards you can see.

Rewarding a goal immediately, and more as the streak grows, is one of the most effective tools used to change habits.

  • A real cost.

People act more consistently when they have something at stake.

  • A moment to think.

A short pause before opening an app is often enough to change your mind.

  • Knowing your numbers.

Simply tracking a habit makes you do less of it.
